How to Reduce the Size of A GoPro 4K Video with VideoProc?

The downside with these 4K GoPro videos is that the video file is often very large … Its size varies depending on the model of your GoPro. There are big differences in file size between a GoPro 4K video made with a GoPro HERO4, a GoPro HERO 5 or a GoPro HERO 6. Because of your own settings but mostly because of the video compression algorithms used by the camera.

A file that is too large is quite annoying, especially if you want to share large video files. Because it takes up space on your hard drive. At the same time, it can be a problem if you want to upload your video to a video platform (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram etc…). Because these platforms often limit the size of videos and more (4 GB for example for Facebook). And depending on the capacity of your internet connection, it can be a bit long. Not everyone is lucky enough to have fiber optics…

VideoProc – A Powerful Video Editor Tool

In this article we will see how to reduce the size of a 4K video with VideoProc, a new software developed by Digiarty Software, a company specialized in DVD and video software since 2006.

VideoProc is a powerful and stable software that is very comfortable processing GoPro videos in 4k, just like large video files and slow motion videos. Especially if you have a recent hardware. Because in this case, VideoProc uses the power of your hardware (graphics card, processor). To work faster and thus reduce the processing time (which can be long depending on the size and duration of the video file). This is called hardware acceleration.

VideoProc allows you to reduce the size of your 4K video files but also to cut/edit/crop/stabilize, adjust your video or export it in many video formats for all types of devices (computer, mobile, television etc…). It also has many built-in tools: DVD burning software, video downloading from many sites such as YouTube or Facebook, screen capture tools etc…

Like most video software, VideoProc is a paid program, with a very reasonable price. You can download the free trial version which allows you to test the software before purchasing it and create 5-minute videos.

Registering for the contest gives you a license key for the software. It is valid for 15 days, which gives you time to test the software properly!

Follow the tutorial below to compress your 4K video to a smaller size!

  1. Download, install and launch VideoProc. If you have hardware that allows hardware acceleration, the software will automatically detect it.
  2. Open the video you want to reduce in the program by dragging it into the program interface or by clicking on the + Video button in the top menu.
  3. In the bottom menu, choose the video codec to use to compress your original video. For example, the MP4 HEVC format (also called H265), a format that succeeded the H264 format which was used for a long time because of its high performance.
  4. Click on the RUN button at the bottom right and wait for your computer and the software to work.

In the end, the video created by VideoProc weighs 90Mb against 968Mb at the base, the compression was efficient, mission accomplished! It is also possible to convert a HEVC video into an H264 video (especially if you can’t play a GoPro HERO 6 video captured in HEVC format).
